Description:

Art Deco motor car perspective fantasy automobile sculpture by Tony Sikorski, 2005, Automotive Fine Arts Society.
Carved and pholychrome wood, chrome, signed on plaque to underside. AFAS 2005.

A unique sense of whimsy and exaggeration characterizes the automotive sculptures of artist Tony Sikorski. By simplifying the automobile into basic design elements, using bold colors, and even creating a funhouse mirror perspective, he captures the beauty, power and speed of our favorite classic four-wheeled conveyances."I've been a car enthusiast for as long as I can remember," Tony says. "My favorites are from the mid-1930s through the mid-1950s--but the custom designs as seen on 1930s Duesenbergs and Delahayes are the pinnacle, true pieces of art. As a kid, I'd always wanted to be a car designer--I even tried to enter the Fisher Body design contests, but I didn't have the right tools. I just kept dreaming about it."
Whether they are privately commissioned or personally inspired, Tony's sculptures have earned plenty of favorable comment. He has received the prestigious Best of Show and Spirit of Automobilist awards at the Meadow Brook Concours D'Elegance, and was admitted to the Automotive Fine Arts Society in 2004. In addition to receiving respect from his peers, he gets it from the public that see his work. "People just love it, especially kids. Some of my pieces look like they're moving, and it gets the kids' imaginations going. It makes people laugh and smile, and this makes me feel good--I guess I'm doing something right."
